Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles - FCEV

Hydrogen fuel cells are an environmentally friendly and promising technology for clean energy production. Let's take a look at how they work and what the advantages of electric vehicles with hydrogen fuel cells are.

Advantages of electric vehicles with hydrogen fuel cells:

  • Longer range: FCEVs can cover greater distances than conventional electric vehicles
  • Shorter charging time:hydrogen can be easily refuelled in a few minutes
  • Zero emissions: FCEVs only emit water vapour
  • Use of renewable resources

Hydrogen fuel cells: how they work and what the benefits are

In addition to the all-electric drive, Alkè is working on other propulsion to satisfy all mobility needs. Specifically, we are talking about hydrogen fuel cell technology. These cells work by converting hydrogen into electrical energy through a process of electrolysis, without emitting any greenhouse gases or pollutants. Hydrogen is a renewable and abundant energy source and can be produced by processing renewable energy sources such as water or solar energy. A hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) uses a fuel cell to convert hydrogen into electricity, which is used to power an electric motor. The fuel system must be accompanied by a pressurised hydrogen tank, where the hydrogen is stored and transported to the fuel cell to power the vehicle. Hydrogen refuelling can be done via filling stations, similar to those for petrol or diesel. This technology certainly offers many advantages over conventional electric vehicles, such as longer range, shorter charging time and zero emissions.

Electric vehicles with hydrogen range extender: applications

An electric vehicle with hydrogen range extender, such as the one realised by Alkè within the H2GO project, is a type of hybrid vehicle in which a hydrogen fuel cell is used to generate electricity to power the electric motor and increase the vehicle's range. The applications of electric vehicles with hydrogen range extenders can be diverse, such as: journeys requiring long distances; medium to long-distance freight transport; service activities for municipalities such as daily road maintenance, waste management; off-road use or for special purposes such as in remote areas; as emergency vehicles, as they can travel longer distances than a conventional electric vehicle. The future of electric vehicles with hydrogen fuel cells is certainly promising. These vehicles will play an important role in the transition to clean and sustainable energy sources.
