B licence: which vehicles can you drive?
The transition to electric mobility is increasingly taking place and raising many questions, especially about driving licences. Which electric vehicles can you drive if you have a B licence? Let's find out together.
Which electric vehicles I can drive with a B licence:
- All Alke ATX electric vehicle models
- Any electric vehicle classified N1
- Vehicles with a maximum mass not exceeding 3.5 tonnes
- Approved vehicles up to 3,500 kg, with a trailer up to a maximum of 1,350 kg
With a B licence you can drive vehicles up to a total mass of 3,500 kg
All models of Alke' electric vehicles can be driven with the B licence, including heavy-duty, high-performance vehicles. The B licence is the most common and widespread driving licence, allowing access to a wide range of electric vehicles, including those classified as N1, i.e. vehicles intended for the transport of goods. In addition to allowing the driving of cars and mopeds, the B licence also allows the use of certain types of motorbikes and scooters, thus extending the mobility options for holders. A particularly interesting aspect is the possibility of driving lorries, provided that the total mass of the vehicle does not exceed 3.5 tonnes. This total mass includes not only the weight of the vehicle itself, but also that of the load transported, a crucial factor to consider for those using vehicles for commercial or work purposes. Alke electric vehicles are designed to meet various professional needs, offering a sustainable and versatile alternative to traditional vehicles. With a B licence, drivers can use these vehicles for day-to-day operations, without the need for additional licences. Alkè electric vehicles can tow up to 1350 kg on public roads with a B licence. This towing capacity further expands the applications of electric vehicles, allowing equipment, trailers or various loads to be transported safely and legally. However, if towing requirements exceed this threshold, a BE licence is required, which allows towing loads of up to 2,000 kg.
Can I drive a van with a trailer with a B licence or do I need a C licence?
A category C driving licence is required to drive commercial vehicles and trucks weighing more than 3.5 tonnes. In particular, if an electric vehicle exceeds this weight limit and is used for professional purposes, a C licence is required. In the specific case of Alkè electric commercial vehicles, a C licence is not required; a B licence is sufficient. Interestingly, in private contexts, such as construction sites or company areas, a driving licence is not required to drive Alke vehicles. In such areas, it is possible to tow up to 4500 kg, making these vehicles extremely useful in situations where loading and handling is frequent. This flexibility is a great advantage for companies operating in enclosed or private spaces. The choice of an Alke electric vehicle is therefore an effective solution for those looking for high performance and versatility, without the need for a higher qualification than they already possess.
Driving high-performance vehicles with a B licence
Alke heavy-duty models, designed for high performance, can normally tow up to 990 kg. However, with the downgrade option, these vehicles can tow 1350 kg, just like the lighter models. This option offers significant advantages, such as the possibility of driving the vehicle with a category B licence, which is much more common and easily obtained. It also allows greater operational flexibility for companies that need vehicles for transporting goods, enabling them to handle heavier loads while maintaining the efficiency and high performance of heavy-duty models. Downgrading the mass of an electric commercial vehicle offers a practical solution for staying within driving regulations, increasing flexibility for drivers and companies that use electric vehicles for their daily operations.
