Discover Artificial Intelligence applied to electric vehicles

Artificial Intelligence (AI) allows machines to ‘think’ and ‘learn’ from experience, becoming increasingly sophisticated and capable of performing complex tasks. It is an ever-evolving technology that is also revolutionising the electric vehicle sector.

Main benefits of AI in electric vehicles

  • Safety assistance system
  • Correction of driver errors
  • Reduction in the use of human resources for simple, repetitive tasks
  • Use in high-risk situations

Artificial intelligence and e-mobility

Application of artificial intelligence in electric vehicles

One of the most promising fields of using artificial intelligence in electric vehicles is autonomous driving. Thanks to AI, vehicles are able to perceive their surroundings, make decisions in real time and drive without human intervention. Sensors, cameras and machine learning algorithms work in synergy to make this reality ever closer. This type of vehicle is useful for performing simple, repetitive tasks or in high-risk situations. To give a few examples of uses, self-driving vehicles are used inside tunnels, transporting food inside hospitals on reserved corridors, moving goods inside warehouses, in video surveillance activities, in hazardous areas such as those with explosion hazards, and collecting laundry in campsites. These are just some of the activities in which self-driving vehicles can be used. In addition to self-driving vehicles, we also find many applications of AI in everyday life. Virtual assistants in smartphones or other devices are examples of AI that respond to voice commands and can perform various tasks. Facial recognition, used to unlock smartphones, identify people in photos and videos and for security purposes are another example of the application of artificial intelligence. In medical diagnostics, AI can help doctors diagnose diseases by analysing medical images or genetic data.

Autonomous driving and artificial intelligence

Alkè's vision: advanced solutions for electric mobility

Alkè's ongoing research and development is driven by the desire to provide its customers with advanced solutions in the field of electric mobility. It is with this in mind that experimentation on autonomous or semi-autonomous guided vehicles for use in the logistics sector, on repetitive routes, situations where man-hours need to be saved, or special situations where the safety of operators needs to be preserved. At the moment, artificial intelligence applied to electric vehicles can make a contribution when applied to vehicles to be used in private areas to carry out simple journeys or, for example, at airports to automatically hook up luggage trolleys. Another area where artificial intelligence is having an increasing impact is that of safety and driving comfort. An example would be radar systems that are useful for detecting pedestrians.

How AI is changing the world of electric vehicles

In addition to self-driving vehicles, artificial intelligence can also intervene in other areas involving electric vehicles, and here are the main ones. Battery optimisation: AI plays a crucial role in battery management, a key component of electric vehicles. Machine learning algorithms can predict the remaining range, optimise charge and discharge cycles and extend battery life. Predictive maintenance: AI allows the health of the vehicle to be constantly monitored, identifying potential problems before they occur. This results in reduced downtime and increased safety for users. Personalising the driving experience: thanks to artificial intelligence, electric vehicles can adapt to the individual preferences of each driver. For example, they can learn driving habits and automatically adjust vehicle settings such as interior temperature or throttle response. Energy efficiency: AI helps optimise the energy efficiency of electric vehicles, reducing energy consumption and maximising range. Machine learning algorithms are capable of analysing driving data and identifying the most efficient driving modes.
